A Far North man had a great Father’s Day, winning the lotto

A GRANDFATHER has become the eleventh Far North Queenslander to win a division one lotto prize this year. The Atherton man, who did not wish to be identified, is now a millionaire after winning $1.6 million in last Saturday’s Gold Lotto draw.

His entry was one of 12 winning entries across Australia in the $20 Million Superdraw, including four from New South Wales, four from Queensland, three from Victoria and one from Western Australia.

The winning 12-game ticket was bought from Atherton Supa IGA.

In a statement supplied by Golden Casket, the man explained he realised he had won yesterday when he went to collect a small win he had on the Instant Scratch-Its ticket he received for Father’s Day.

“I’m still in shock! Oh wow!” he said.

“I went there yesterday and I thought it was a dream.

“I had won $3 on an Instant Scratch-Its ticket I received for Father’s Day, so I went in to collect that prize and I saw the store had sold a winning ticket so I thought I had better check my ticket.”

He said he had been marking his Saturday Gold Lotto entries with the same numbers, consisting of family birthdates, for almost three decades.

“At the moment, the win hasn’t sunk,” he said.

“It’s still not real. It’s going to take a while to believe it but I’d love to share it with my family.

“I’m sitting on cloud nine!”

Atherton Supa IGA staff member Jess Pavey said the outlet was celebrating selling its second division one winning entry since it opened in 2014.

“I was stoked to see we had sold another division one winning entry — the last one we sold, in 2015, was also in a Saturday Gold Lotto Superdraw,” she said.

“I’d like to think we’re a lucky store! So far we’ve sold two division one winning entries and two division two winning entries!

“It’s great for our customer and wonderful that he found out he’d won on Father’s Day!”

The winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto Superdraw 3769 on Saturday, September 2, 2017 were 21, 22, 23, 16, 17 and 44 while the supplementary numbers were 30 and 2.
